(Reposted from several years ago . - A short letter to my student, Aearlinn of the Falathrim, on the occasion of Estarfin's suspected 'disappearance' into the Hithaeglir.)
Aearlinn,
I am sorry to leave this matter to yourself and Serewen, but time is of the essence and I must depart the Vale as soon as possible in search of Lord Estarfin.
As you know, the welfare of that lord from my childhood home is of import to me. It is necessary I do all I may to aid him.
I suspect I may be gone for some time. I cannot explain – it is a feeling that cannot be told in a manner acceptable to the noble Lords of my House.
I ask that you do two things for me: Firstly, that you speak with Ambassador Parnard, a good friend who is most like to understand my motivation. Tell him I have left, that I head to the mountains..and that he must in no wise attempt to follow, neither send any other in pursuit. Bar en Vanimar gears for war. None can be spared. Tell him I am sorry I did not address him in person.
Secondly, should my Lady and Grandmother, of whom you know, arrive in Imladris, please explain to her also of my absence. She is not to give pursuit should she so wish.
Keep my hall until I return and give what aid you may to the leaders of Bar en Vanimar. Continue your studies. So do I bid.
My thanks to you, my student.
D
