One gave their life for creed and kin:
Immortal song his prize has been,
For life taught us such primal drive:
Our legacy and kin must thrive.
His dive into returnless dark
Was lighten by the peaceful spark
Of duty done and will unbent
Soothing an agony soon spent.
Another lived by noble law:
His brethren looked at him in awe
He did not stray when choice was tough,
Of strength, example, albeit rough.
A third, reclusive, kept at bay
All that would make him ever stray.
He too, alone, at peace, will die
His pride intact, his head up high.
But if one acts by his belief,
To bring his kin unsought relief
Of dangers that he only sees,
And, doing so, their will not please,
Is he a hero, pompous fool?
Is he their shield and are they cruel
To call him traitor of their ways?
To look him hostile, mistrust gaze?
He’s right or not - his loss’s the same!
To sacrifice he must add shame.
Alongside pain he’ll fight the doubt
That’s he who knows what’s all about.
For hope he’ll humbly break his way,
His own pride in the dirt to lay.
He’ll silence all the screams inside
To fight a negated malice tide,
And, pained, his heart will bleed, unseen,
For an unwanted gift - a part of him.
He’ll choose just what facade to don
And then, with that, to long live on..
