Introduction: The Night Wanderer

I have seen many things.

I have seen the truest joy of fresh starlight
I have seen my people in their prime, laughing.
I have watched mountains crumble and seas rise.
I have seen the horrors of war and the joys of new dawns.
I have seen more than a thousand triumphs and a thousand sorrows.

I walk this world beneath the stars as we were meant to
As we did before the Valar came and the People left
When all was fair and bright and dark and fell
I guard the memory of the People
Even if they do not know me

Among the Laiquendi I found peace
To the Sindar I laughed and sang
The Ñoldor I turned all away
The Avari are of my own

They did not know my name, in the beginning.
That is because I had none.
A name they gave me, and I took it.
Dúrandis, The Night Wanderer.
It suits.

I am older than the bright sun and the gentle moon.
I am of the people long forgotten.
I am of the Hwenti, the Avari.
I am the Night Wanderer.
