Date: Fourth day of the first month
Recruit name: Cween
Description of activities:
After drill was carried out on Tuesday evening I thought I would retire to the Pony for a swift half then an early night. However, Hildith had been charged with scouting out the eastern road. http://laurelinarchives.org/node/5574|I felt that perhaps she may like some company, after all the roads are not safe of late. The stroll would also do my head well, all the sparing at drill had made it spin somewhat horrid.
We left Bree keeping up a quick march we soon had covered the ground to the far side of Combe where http://laurelinarchives.org/node/5575|we stopped to gather information from those keeping a constant watch over the roads. After exchanging a few small details he mentioned some shocking news, a new threat had been identified beyond North Chetwood. He was unable to tell me exactly what it was but it was clearly something powerful and vicious by his description of the wounds people had received.
I thank him and headed alongside Hildith into North Chetwood, having been here recently I suggested keeping a wary eye open all sorts of things are lurking beneath the bows of those trees. It was not long for my words to gain meaning as we stumbled across a woman being attacked by those horrid spiders. Not sure if I have mentioned the spiders before but I really do hate the beasts. Luckily Hildith was quick at them and soon they lay dead, I asked the woman if she was okay after such an attack. However, she seemed only mildly shaken and made a retreat towards the lumber mill.
We pressed on into the forest and encountered Brigands which of course was to be expected in that fold wood, where else would foul men dwell. After thinning their numbers we continued to the east finding the forest thinning and the land rising before us. I was now out of the areas I knew. Hildith, always generous, offered to take me in the direction described by the watcher at Combe and we sent of heading more northerly. Across land was quite barren I thought nothing would live there, however yet again we were attacked http://laurelinarchives.org/node/5576|and yet again it was those darn spiders that were the ones doing it.
As we continued across the bleak hills I spotted dark birds and strange shapes, like figures moving about but I did not get close enough to identify them. Brigands perhaps hunting spiders for meat? Eventually there was a bit more green to the land and I could see a pool of water not too far in the distance. It all seemed rather peaceful and tranquil, http://laurelinarchives.org/node/5577|and that was when were beset.
I do not know where it came from but it made a horrible noise and attacked. Its small sharp teeth gave quite a sting and the claws on its filthy paws scratched something horrible, this was clearly the trouble the watcher had warned of. But we hardy and slayed the beast, I was then satisfied that the watcher would be content that there would no more trouble from that direction and made for further into far Chetwood for a bit of a rest. It had been a long walk and soon http://laurelinarchives.org/node/5578|we came to a height that looked out over the waters and to great mountains beyond.
It was quite a peaceful end to an eventful trip. Although I still think more needs to be done about these blasted spiders, sir.
