Date: First day of the first month
Recruit name: Cween
Description of activities:
After my search for ore in the Midgewater Marshes had uncovered a growing spider population I felt that a survey of the arachnids in Chetwood was advisable. I there for dutifully matched to the wood just east of the lumber mill, it is not an unpleasant forest at the edge, the trees are not too close and there is undergrowth of a wholesome sort covering the floor. However, it was not far from the mill that I found the first webs and signs of spiders.
They were on the southern borders of the forest closest to the marshes. I noted their location and a general head count, although this was far from easy as the darn things skitter about like nobody’s business, but I think I made a fair estimate. I journeyed deeper into the woods to look for other spider strongholds and caught site of a fire in the distance. I at once new this was not the doing of our eight legged enemies; they simply do not have the right skills. It was only then I remembered this notice pinned in the jail, it must be Brigands. I crept quietly forward towards the fire to investigate, and indeed I was correct in my guess several stood around.
I decided not to target those at the camps instead I prowled the area and picked of those that were scouting the area alone. They appear to be trained to a mediocre level of skill and many went down quite quickly as if they were tired, or under fed. The odd one put up a little more resistance but I soon had slaughtered a number of the fools. After clearing deep into their camp I found a pair at a campfire with some fresh looking meat on the spit. I took caution to the wind and charged. They were poorly armed, one not even carrying a blade so I was able to best them, and then take my quarry. I rested at that spot for a moment by the fire and tried some of the tender meat. It was cooked perfectly. I then made my way out of Chetwood, all thoughts of spiders I am afraid were completely forgotten, but hopefully I have thinned the Brigand numbers slightly.
