First Age.
Of the Ñoldor elves, Glirondil was ten years of age when the hidden city of Gondolin was established. Kept within its encircling mountains, he grew in the hidden city with a single desire to explore the world beyond the hidden fastness. Once declared to be in his maturity at just over fifty years old, he wasted no time in leaving behind the city and his family to indulge what would prove to be an insatiable desire to learn about the world in which he lived.
To discuss Glirondil's movements during the First Age would require much writing, but he can be aptly described as being an itinerant elf, traveling between the lands and holds of his people. On his journeys he discovered a love of the sea and would spend great spans of time amongst the Falathrim. When the threat of Morgoth spread ever further across Middle Earth, Glirondil spent the last part of the First Age hidden in Gondolin before its fall. As part of Glorfindel's House of the Golden Flower, Glirondil followed his Lord into battle and was amongst the few of that house that survived the flight from the city and made it safely through the Eagle's Cleft.
For the rest of the First Age during the Wars of Beleriand, Glirondil was recognised as an Elf-Captain and led a size-able band of Ñoldorin and Teleri Elves into battle. He was named Alarcamacil and managed to survive the long fighting of the War of Wrath.
Second Age.
Glirondil was amongst Círdan's people when they settled at their new coastal settlement of Mithlond. At the time that Sauron - posing as Annatar - deceived Celebrimbor and the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, Glirondil had moved and established himself amongst the Elves of Lindon, serving Gil-Galad's herald Elrond Half-elven. Glirondil fought beneath Elrond's command during the War of the Elves and Sauron, and was present when Imladris was established in SA 1697, which would become his semi-permanent home from them on until the Fourth Age began.
Glirondil took up his sword once again when the host of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men came into being. He followed Lord Elrond into battle as an Elf-Captain once again, leading a company of Elves who named themselves the Luidhrim, the Blue Host, with their simple blue banner arrayed with a golden sun in recognition of Glirondil's former servitude to Glorfindel's house.
It was at Imladris that he was given the Epessë Glirondil after his love of poetry and joy in listening to the words and stories of others told in the Hall of Fire in the Last Homely House.
Third Age.
The Third Age was peaceful for Glirondil, who would spend his time between Imladris and Mithlond, making long and winding journeys between the two places. At times he would accompany Elves intending to sail to the West, although he resisted any temptation he may have had to join them on their final voyage.
At the coming of the One Ring to Imladris, borne by the Hobbit Frodo son of Drogo, Glirondil was present and witnessed the Fellowship of the Ring departing on their journey. During the War of the Ring he rode the lands south of the Trollshaws with those few Elves of Imladris who would march with him to war, bearing aloft his blue banner with its golden sun once more.
Fourth Age.
Resisting the call of the sea was becoming a heavy burden for Glinrondil, much in the way that one might resist the droop of heavy lids when fatigue had long set in. He traveled to Caras Galadhon in Lothlórien, and from there began his journey West. He made his journey long and complex as he sought places he knew well or held particular memories for him. By end of the twentieth year of the Fourth Age, he stepped onto a ship in the Grey Havens and headed into the West.
