Recruit Duty - But that is citizens work sir!

Date:                First day of the twelfth month
Recruit name:    Cween

Description of activities:

With the shortage of wood being faced by the guard I took the axe from my pack and headed off into the fields around Staddle. There are normally a few fallen rowan branches that are easy enough to gather.

After recovering all I could in the peaceful surroundings of Staddle I was forced to head into South Chetwood to find more lumber. The land here has become infested with both boars and bears, which are easily angered if you do not keep your distance. I tried to pick my way around them and selected the trees on the outskirts of the copse so as not to get in their way. However, despite my efforts a wandering boar spotted me and was not impressed with me being in his territory. As he pounded the ground ready for a charge I did the respectable thing, and ran.

I found that actually my tactical retreat had worked out well and the area either side of the road to Lone-lands was a good spot for gather timber, a location I had not previously considered suitable for resource hunting. It was a rather quiet road and no travellers past for a long period. I had travelled further than I thought and neared the border of Lone-lands. It was then that I spotted a smashed cart to the side of the road. I approached to see if there were any casualties. Luckily no one was in the vehicle so turned my investigation to establishing what had caused it to leave the road. Ext. link: “Ambush Attack (Recruit Duty - But that is citizens work sir!)”

A quick withdrawal was not possible this time and I was forced to fight. I was glad of the combat training I had received against some stiff competition after the recent drills and used the movement techniques I had picked up from other recruits. My constant moving seemed to confuse the creature and he eventually fell. I did not stay to investigate further, I quickly cleaned my sword on the long grass, grabbed up my laden pack, and left.

I sustained little injury during the fight, although my arm is bruised from bracing my shield against the creatures’ blows. I was still able however to fashion the timber I had collected into useable logs which I have left in the jail for collection.
