Awaying this Place

The young woman’s manner disarmed Zahne initially, her lack of turning away at his visage was enough to make his fingers curl atop the coin and withdraw it. He initially wanted to insist that she took it. When the topic switched to his own wellbeing, the scarred brute mutely shook his head at first.

“No….I am fine.”

The last word held a frustrated edge to it. Zahne didn’t know what happened in that moment and he hadn’t felt that sort of pain since his injury was repaired. It seemed like a lifetime ago that he found himself touching the freshly bandaged socket, stuffed with the earthy smelling poultice that the apothecary had stuffed it with.

His recollection was interrupted when the offer was made to take the East Road away from the town. The warrior couldn’t argue the logic of making their way out…in fact the sooner the better. Chickweed was not loved by many, however tongues could be loosed with silver no matter how much the deceased was hated.

“There are many that would not feel the same with me in your company. I tend to draw the wrong sort of attention. However, I know the East Road well and there are many ruins that are suitable for camp. I wouldn’t trouble you for a meal…nor would I insult you by refusing one. “

The man paused for a minute, as if considering withdrawing his offer. After shaking his head, he became candid with his next statement.

“If you would rather we part ways after the meal, I understand and respect that. I only ask that you let me see you to this other camp that you mentioned. I would not have you stay by yourself in the wilds.”
