Entry 2, 3rd of July

Been keeping an eye on the south hedge since speaking with Mister Burnwood and seeing the damage done by person or critter unknown.

While doing my rounds two nights hence, on the first of the month, I were stopped by Mister Goldenleaf, or Bert as he's known, the fellow what runs the stable at the south gate. He said something had indeed been spooking the horses more nights than not, though when he stepped into the street to look about, he didn't see anything. I advised him like I did Mister Burnwood, to keep a sturdy club about his person, and maybe hire an extra lad or two to watch the horses at night in shifts.

Waiting for a troublemaker to make themselves known is the most frustrating part of what we do round here, if you ask me. Hard to deal with a problem before you even know what it is you're dealing with. It's been terrible hot and stuffy, which doesn't help matters. A hot summer makes folks irritable and short tempered, and the last thing we need is some peeved brigand trying to sneak through the hedge to nab a horse or a pouch of coppers for himself.
