Celonlinn's journal: Entry 3

Thalion how I wish you were here in these dark times.

Despite my better judgment I brought the toy-maker and his companion with me but I couldn't trust them enough to bring them all the way to the Angle and so instead I have left them in Ost Guruth to work while I continued onwards with haste and it seems I arrived just in time.

As I approached my beloved home I found Thorontir and his company outside speaking with an elf who brought news of a large skirmish band that was heading towards the Angle. My news of the dwarves would have to wait as we rushed inside to warn the people and get the children to safety. I commanded Agacyra to keep watch over the children and stand guard should any of the orcish filth manage to make their way past our gates.

In hindsight I should have asked Curonmír to do so but she was eager to battle when news arrived and I could not deny her. She's grown so much and I knew she was ready, it was her time to understand what it is we fight.
It was her first battle and so I kept her with the other archers while I went with Thorontir down below and towards the entrance where we had hoped to slow the skirmish down although our plans were halted when we realized that Brigferth was still outside. The same man I had met in Bree some time back.

That damn old fool.

He was struck by an arrow when he tried to make his way back into the fort and the orcs were at his back. I had no choice but to rush forward and grab the old man to bring him back inside.
While I managed to get him back it was not without getting struck myself but at least we were all alive still. Our plans of slowing down the orcs failed and so we waved our way through the traps that the dwarf had sat down but I began to fall behind and the orcs were right behind us.

If it were not for those traps that were sat down and our new elven ally I do not think I would be writing these words today. Both Thorontir and our new ally rushed forward to aid me and was it the elf that caught the orcs attention to distract them enough for me to slip to the gate where I could prepare my bow and aid the two back to the gate from afar.

We were urged inside once the two joined me again and as we managed to shut the gate again we could hear the orcs foul and horrid screams on the other side. I later learned it was because of the burning oil that was poured onto them, another craft from the dwarven ally Thorontir found.

I joined the archers on top and continued to let my arrows rain down on the filth that were trying to get into our home. There was no mercy shown this day.

The whole thing must have been overwhelming for our enemy because when it came to the end of their numbers they turned to flee. We were able to shoot some of them down but others managed to make their escape. Hopefully we will manage to track them before they can make any reports to whomever is commanding them.
We cannot risk another attack on the Angle and we still do not know how they managed to find us.

Valar bless us in these times.
