The wisdom of the elves!
I remember now why it is I so treasure this simple book, to keep a journal and speak my most private words, make bare the true extent of my feelings. Today, I feel only frustration and disappointment. I burn with anger at the injustice and negligence I have witnessed.
We met together, this lawmaker of Lake Evendim, his woman and lieutenant, and the elf lord that hosted us, to speak council and make light of the matter that plagued us; to discuss the fate of the company they stalked and to make account of the crimes committed.
I had no reason to imagine they would take my side eagerly. Yet this meeting proved to be a farce. Our lord made clear he would not abide by cruelty, yet he would brush aside the crimes of unjust imprisonment and abuse in exchange for mere assurances and sweet words, even as they denied the gravity of their actions.
I felt the sting of insults and my turn to speak stolen, accusations and interruptions were hurled against me and I was given no chance to neither defend myself nor speak my part. The loudest and the most vehement party would fall in favour, no matter my patience. Their insults came without reprise even as my own words were silenced and denied.
Was it my eloquence that was lacking? Or is this truly the callous and thoughtless judgement I must expect from an eldar of Imladris? Perhaps I was wrong to allow the matter to carry so far. They are far removed from this matter, but my heart is heavy to see they would not merely leave these marauders and their actions unquestioned, but they departed with their blessing! Despite how their cruel intentions remain clear, their corrupt and arrogant desires for the land they dare claim their own.
Haetîra's dream may have been true, of black vipers that spilled vile venom from their gaping maws. It is lies they drip, corrupting the earth around them and bringing others into their hold. I may count only on my own.
I will not defer to the wisdom of elves in this matter. Let it remain a conflict of Men, and if it must mean that I defy the will of the eldar and even opposing my own kinsmen, I shall uphold my duty and guard the free folk of the North. My oath holds true. My values, without compromise.
This company of Tinnudir Keep have already declared me an enemy, and now I am forced to do the same. And my watch in the North against The Enemy continues, till I draw my last breath.
I am ready to do what I must.
