-Part One

The man was walking on the border of the forest in the Northernmost part of North Downs making sure he was unseen. The land was unusually silent, even the birds didn't chirp as they used to do, the tall trees of Nan Amlug West are a home to many birdsand often the forest was filled with their chirping , but not that day. The man went on, his green and brown clothing hid him, making him one with his surroundings. Once at the designated position he lowered the mask and brought his hands to his mouth and produced a sound similar to the sound of the birds and waited, some moments passed and no reply came, he did it again and after a little while again. There was no reply, which made hm thoughtful and he went on, quietly stepping on the fresh grass under his muddy boots.
His steps brought him to the pass into Angmar but he did not dare cross it, he knew that once in there all alone he was condemned to die, it would not be wise to enter. He turned east, towards the other side of the forest, his brethren could be there, hunting any orcs that had strayed and got too close to the Dwarven post or even worse, near Esteldin. Again, he reached a certain spot and made the same sound, but to no avail, no reply came. No reply but the smell of something burning, his boots suddenly acquired wings as he started to run towards the source of the smell, the clsoer he got the worse it was getting and soon he knew what it was , it was the smell of a burning corpse, he could see it ahead of him, tied to a tree.
It was like a stab in his heart to see one of  the youngest rangers tied to a tree, with his stomach slit and burned, he knew him too well to take it lightly. Next to him was hanging another brother, one that he haven't known for long, but that pain was no less. Quickly he nocked an arrow and stepped closer to the burned men, everything was still all around, but he knew too well that too still meant that there was an ambush. After walking around the area with the dead bodies and seeing that no one was anywhere he tied the bow to his back and examined the bodies, they were tied to the trees and shot with arrows multiple times, then they got burned, maybe alive. At once and without looking back the man ran towards Esteldin, to bring the sad news.
All the rangers had gathered outside Halbarad's Study to hear the death of their brothers, two more were lost, two more fulfilled their oath and died protecting their lands.  They stood in silence, keeping their heads down for some moments and heard the speech about their death and their duties, one by one then the rangers left, leaving the "high ranked" ones to talk and decide what to do about the loss. They waited for everyone to leave and then looked at each other, their eyes were blank, all of them, grey eyes, still, as the fire shone light on them, and yet thinking, thinking of the same thing. Not long ago a raven flew away from Esteldin, heading East...
