Alyanissë,
We crossed the Hithaeglir without much incident, and have reached the borders of the Golden Wood. Here we are encamped waiting further communication from those who rule these lands. Your daughter Lothelian has been a most attentive and dutiful companion on the journey from Imladris, and always has her eyes and ears open to new knowledge. Annúngil and I shared what we remembered of Eregion with her while we were passing through there. She has collected quite a few mineral and ore samples, some even taken from the sheer rock walls of the Hithaeglir, as we passed through the mountains.
We are well, so do not trouble yourself about your daughter overmuch. Though, as much as I say this, I am beginning to understand what it is like to care for her as if she were my own flesh and blood. I thank you again for arranging accommodations in Lothlórien for myself and Lothelian in advance, which will save us much trouble.
Once we are settled, I will secure some kind of forge where I may work, and Lothelian will be able to continue her apprenticeship with me. Annúngil has more knowledge of the forges in the Golden Wood, and may have some contacts among the artisans and smiths here which will be of great use in broadening Lothelian's training. It will be good for her to be exposed to many different styles and techniques of metalsmithing, some of which I am sure she has not seen before in Imladris.
By the time this reaches you in Imladris, it may as well be the middle of spring, and we will be settled in our new duties and homes in the Golden Wood. I do not know if duty will call me and Annúngil across the Anduin, but I will ensure that Lothelian is provided for if that will be the case. I know you have taught her some self-defence, and I will see to that her skills with the staff and sword are not lacking.
I hope you and Lendir are well, and that your forge-fire burns as brightly as ever.
- Makanárë
