Ildrand's Backsword
Submitted by Ildrand on January 9th, 2016
Yes, yes, I know.
It is a pattern 1796 British Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword. But that sword is, technically, a backsword, and backswords are much older than late 18th century.
And since it is just that, I won't waste (as opposed to my usual) needless words on its construction, shape and look. If you want to know more, check it up here.
Though, note that it has some differences from the "standard" version:
- The hilt features a half disc guard instead of a full disc guard. It still has both the langets and the knucklebow.
- The blade has a sharpened false edge and the tip, while remaining a hatchet point, is more acute.
- It has definitely a better balance than its "sibling from the real world", and is thus more fit for delicate swordsmanship.
- The scabbard is a simple wood and leather one, shortened to fit the 33 inches of blade.
