The Crack of Thunder

T.A. 3002 - March

Aldburg.

Sæwaru awoke with a scream. She was sweating all over. It was late at night, and she had been woken up by a terrible nightmare. She had dreamt Régn, the man he knew as a father had been killed in the battle with the orcs. She rushed to her Régnwald's bed and shock him awake, ''Régnwald! Régnwald! Wake up!'' she cried as she shock him.

''What Sæwaru? It's the middle of the night.'' Régnwald said rubbing his eyes sleepily.

''I had a terrible dream. About Régn and the orcs!''

Régnwald's eyes widened with renewed wonder, ''Come into my bed, and tell me about it.'' So Sæwaru climbed into his bed.

''It was dark, raining heavily. Fathers were losing and then many arrows flew upon them, and he...''

CRANK! — The sound of thunder was accompanied by heavy rain.

She couldn't finish her words and began to cry. Régnwald embraced her close to him and whispered, ''Don't worry, Sæwaru. Nothing is going to happen.''

''Do you promise?'' she asked softly.

'Well no, I can't promise because I don't know if anything is going to happen, but we can hope.'' Sæwaru looked up at her brother with bright eyes with some tears beside of it. Régnwald was worried, but he tried to hide it.

''Let's just hope that nothing happens, and maybe if we wish and wish hard enough then nothing will happen and our father and all the men will come, telling us tales of how they defeated the orcs.'' Régnwald continued his story until Sæwaru fell back to sleep beside him. He kissed her softly on the forehead and began watching the heavy rain from the window. Soon after, he also fell into sleep.
