Seia: "You asked me to promise not to harm your father, which I will not promise."
Priya: "He is my family. And if you're with me, he is your family as well....Is it customary in Harad to harm the bride's father? Do you not respect your elders?"
Seia: "If I did not fight my elders, I would still be in Harad....And I do not think you have asked my mother's permission for marriage."
Priya [with a grin]: "I plan to."
Seia [with a smile]: "She might stab you.....She will stab me."
Priya [sighs]: "Then I suppose we will die unmarried...What a cruel fate."
Seia: "How does it work up here? In Harad, the bride's mother speaks to the mother of the groom, and come to an agreement. The men have very little to do with it, but the bride is permitted to sit in on the talks."
Priya: "Here the man asks the hand of the bride, from her father." She smiles widely.
Seia: "Why would I want your hand? Do I wear it from my belt? That seems silly."
Priya "It's a metaphor, for asking to be allowed to marry the daughter."
Seia: "Metaphors and jokes, always with you people. But he will say 'no'....Unless I drag it out of him, screaming and howling."
Priya: "If you'd attempt to be nice, he would say 'yes'...You know, sometimes smile works better than torture."
Seia 'smiles', parting his lips but hiding his teeth in a way that makes him seem like a poorly carved pumpkin, "Like this?"
Priya: "Well... that's a good ...-start-."
Seia: "I think I would prefer to torture him."
Priya: "No. You are not allowed to do that."
Seia: "Just a little torture then."
Priya: "No. No torture."
Seia [with a heavy sigh]: "Fine. No torturing your father."
Priya: "And no harming either."
Seia: "I have told you I will not promise that."
Priya: "Just this once. Please Seia. I'm begging you."
Seia: "I will not harm him unless he needs to be harmed, and that is the best I will give you, Priya." He frowns down at her, visibly annoyed.
Priya: "Can you promise you will not harm him, unless he physically attacks us?"
She stares at him pleadingly, ignoring his annoyed look.
Seia: "I have made my promise. I am not going to change it."
Priya: "But you at times think someone needs to be harmed for simply looking at you the wrong way! You have not promised me anything I can live with."
Seia: "I have told you, no! I do not change my promises on anyone's whim!"
She throws a pillow angrily at him, "Idiot!"
He kicks the pillow across the room and storms out, slamming the door shut behind him.
