The Water Moon

In the clear night sky
Surrounded by stars
The moon is there glowing
From its distance afar
I stand by the water
In fine silver light
And wish I could reach up
To touch the moon this night

But there in the water
That laps at my feet
Another moon glistens
So clear and so sweet
A gleaming white circle
Asleep on the lake
It's there if I reach out
Just longing to take

This moon is surrounded
By speckles of light
Scattered on the water
These dots of pure white
And with the night breezes
The moon starts to dance
In gentlest ripples
The water enchants

And so in the water
I take a few steps
The moon is beside me
I don't care if I'm wet
The water embraces
I reach to the moon
And hope that this moment
Is not over too soon

Is the scene real?
Or is it a dream?
A hobbit in water
Is not all that it seems
In the water I'm swimming
Or to the moon do I fly?
I return to my slumbers
And on the bank lie
