Background

Hear 'ye, hear ye

Ever dreamed of bathing in gold? Enticing the ladies with your riches? To be seen as a might hero to all, ahem...some? If you're not swayed by seasickness, becoming a Privateer may just be the thing for you. A mixture of mercenary work, sailing, treasure hunting - we love our coin! - and having a good ol' time if what describes us best. But don't you landlubbers fret; we need men on land just as much as we do on the seas to help us with various jobs and smugglin...I mean, distributing wares.

And please, if you decide to join, it's best if you have some sort of fighting experience. We haven't got time to teach you every trick in the book. Wasting time is wasting money! If you haven't had any experience whatsoever regarding weapons and beating tough guys to a bloody pulp, then we'll probably have to keep you on the sidelines until a spot for mentoring opens up. Once you meet your mentor, you'll be kicking rear-ends into Mordor by the end of the week.

Don't bother trying to find our crew. If you need to contact someone, there'll probably be one or two of us in The Prancing Pony Inn in Bree-Town, but don't get your hopes up. Most of our crew stay away from the busier places because of certain...altercations in the past that have led to a bounty being put on their heads. It's probably best, even if you do spot us anywhere, to send us a letter or something. You don't want to walk in on our men having a drunken brawl. They tend to rope in anyone that makes eye contact with them, so it's probably better to stay away.

If I haven't put you off by now, they maybe this is the job for you. We're lovely people, really. Once you get used to the smell...
