The Grey Savage

Belegander walked into the inn with his hands clasped behind his back and his chin raised. His jaw clenched slightly as he saw the grey haired pest but simply sent him a charismatic smile as he walked over to the table where he sat. With an elegant wave, he called one of the barmaids. "Some of your finest wine my lady" he demands sending her a smile before turning to the pest. "Good day there Sir," he greeted him warmly.

Belegander did his best not to sneer at the man, with close proximity it was clear to see this was a dalish savage.  He should have known, the smell alone was enough to give him away.  He forced his smile to become warmer. Rannie sure knew how to pick her men…a criminal, a filthy ranger, haradrim, an uncouth Gondorian, an arrogant courier and now a dalish savage of all things.  The savage nodded his head, shoveling in another spoonful of his meal. "Westu Hal, what brings you here?" He asked and Belegander just kept his smile bright.

"Why a glass of some good wine, how about you friend?" He replied, the word friend falling bitter on his tongue but thanks to his skills, manage to make it sound heart felt.  The savage raised a brow slightly gave him a smile in return.

"Good food before a long journey. They have many fine wines here, you're in for a hard selection," he stated and Belegander wanted to scoff and demand what he knew of good food or fine wines. The savage probably drank cattle’s blood knowing how his people were but he simply smiled and took the glass the barmaid offered him. He swirled it and took in it’s smell. He took a sip, it wasn’t a bad wine…not a good one though.

"A long journey you say?" He inquired, confident that getting rid of this savage would be easy. After all this was Rannie, he was dealing with. The savage nodded, putting down his bowl and Belegander was admittedly surprised he used a cloth to clean his face. The grey haired pest mentioned some kind of working taking him away and again he wanted to scoff. Who would hire a dalish savage? “Oh what a shame” he stated with feigned compassion.

“Will you be traveling alone?” he asked as he took another sip, all the while gauging the man before him, if he could be called a man. The grey savage head shot up and he gave Belegander a ill-favored look.

"Perhaps, why do you ask?" He asked sounding suspicious and Belegander shrugged with a light laugh before taking another sip of his wine.

"Just it's a dangerous world out there and one should be careful of the company they keep" he explained then after some moment of debate he decided to make his first move and added "Like the girl I've seen you with at times...best stay away from that one from the stories I've heard." To his surprise the save simply bobbed his foul head with a foolish smile.

"Fear not, little man. Those who know me, know that I am more than capable of taking care of myself. The company I keep is of my own business, so I suggest you politely back off." The savage stated and Belegander frowned slightly as he took another drink. Well his manners are that of which was expected he thought snidely.

"Dangers don't come just a blade my friend” he warned the foolish grey savage then continued to prod. “I have one question do you know of her past?" He asked, sure Rannie wouldn’t freely discuss her rather impure past.

“I know of it, yes. Why is it any of your business?” The pest said with an indifference that surprised Belegander. There was no way this savage could know of her past and be like that. So he ignored the question thrown at him and offered the fool another smile before taking a drink of the wine.

"So she told you she was a thief?" He asked and the savage had the gall to narrow his eyes at him with some suspicious look.

"That I do lad, and I suggest you mind your tongue, should you wish to keep it." He threatened with an exasperated tone and Belegander almost wanted to call his thugs at that very moment but instead he simply laughed and offered the man another smile.

"Now no need to be like that friend. Just looking out for you...since she has a long list of men" he goaded the savage however his attempts to goad him didn’t achieve the results he was hoping for. After a few more failed attempts to goad him into to running off. Finally he gave up, if trying to beat some wisdom in his head didn’t work then he’d try the second approach. He tossed a fat coin purse to the savage.  "Take your little journey but take it without her and in fact don't talk to her again and that purse is yours"

The Savage at first looked confused then proved his level of foolishness by spitting on the purse then telling Belegander in a rather uncouth fashion what he could do with his coin.  "I'm trying to give you a chance boy...trying to do this nicely because one way or another, you'll be leaving Rannie alone. She's no good to me with you yapping at her heels like some silly puppy!"

The Grey savage simply made a crude threats including kill Belegander as he planted his knife in the table. Belegander simply grinned at him. “Oh I won’t be the one dying” he told him coolly and got up from the table, leaving the inn.  As planned the grey puppy followed him out and Belegander gave the four men a small nod. They came from the darkness and leaped on the fool. With some struggle, much more than Belegander would have liked considering the fool nearly got close enough to attack him, the grey savage was knocked unconscious. “Let’s go” he barked to the men and they made their way out of the village.
