The small wild woman walked to the camp leaning on her walking stick. She greeted those like her with the expected greeting and dipped her head in a small bow of respect to the Angmarim watching all the hill men closely. She made her way to where the cooks and supplies were housed. A plump leathery woman glared at her as she came close. “If you think you can steal crumbs from me little mouse then you are a fool! I will not risk my neck to feed someone I care nothing for even if she is of my kin” the woman warned her.
The small woman dipped her head in a bow like she did with the Angmarim. “Oh no,” she exclaimed with a look of horror. “I did not come looking for scraps…I was told to come and serve you in any way you see fit” the woman told her meekly. The plump one eyed the woman over then nodded, apparently convinced. She muttered something in her native tongue before directing towards the small woman once more.
"Good…but not sure how you can serve me, you look half starved!” she complained. “Well I’ll get what work I can out of you before you collapse and I give you one piece of advice: when you do collapse try not to anger the red cloaks in doing so. They’ll make you wish you had died sooner if you do and I won’t do anything to stop, not even a kind word, understood?” The small woman bopped her head quickly up and down, quickly stating that she did.
She worked alongside the plump woman as hard as she could, never spoke a word of complaint, and more importantly didn’t steal or ask to be fed that by the end of the evening the plump woman seemed to have become fond of her hard working mouse. “Go put the rest of this food in the crates, I think you’re the only one that won’t try to break into it,” she argued and the small woman nodded to her and raced off which what food stores was left over from the day much like an excited puppy eager to please it’s master. The plump woman grinned as she watched the small woman, pleased to have herself a new pet.
The small woman pulled along the small crate, hissing curses and warnings at the hill men that would get to close to the crate she was pulling and even smacked a couple with her walking stick that dared to think they could take the crate from her. She continued her way towards where the food was stored at the edge of the camp. The plump woman had explained to her, that it use to be stored closer to the center but too many of the hill men were raiding the stores. So it was placed at the boarders of the camp where only the Angmarim had permission to be.
Upon arriving at the tent where the food was stored, the woman dipped her head low to the red cloaked guards, stating her purpose before entering. Once in the tent she looked around at the massive amount of crates staked there. She pushed the crate to rest where she told it was supposed to go. She looked over several crates and their contents before selecting one and pushed it towards the edge of the tent wall.
With a glance around she and the crate slipped under the tent wall where she picked it up with a grunt. She waddled quickly about twenty feet from the camp where a nervous looking woman with a horse awaited her. “I started to think that this plan of yours had failed and you were dead” the woman told the smaller one. The small woman set the crate down with a grunt then straightened herself up slightly.
“My plan has worked just like I expected it to” the small woman told her. “Be here tomorrow and tell the tainted one everything is going according to plan” she stated. The nervous woman nodded and quickly saw to the crate.
Rannie allowed herself a small smirk of victory before taking the walking stick and returning to the camp and the plump woman. She slipped back into the food store tent and back to where the plump woman waited. “You took a while” the plump woman demanded and Rannie dipped in a nod.
“Yes, some of our kin thought to steal from the crate…I had to beat a few with my stick” she told her eager and meekly causing the plump woman to laugh.
“Good, let no one touch that food it’s for the Shadows only” she demanded and Rannie nodded once more. “Since you’ve worked so well I have a gift for you” the plump woman told her, then handed her some bread with dried pork and water. “You serve me as you have and I will allow you to eat”
Rannie sent her a happy smile. “Oh you are most kind! I will I promise I will serve you as long as I can” she stated eagerly, smirking on the inside. Or at least till I’ve taken enough food for the people of Aughaire, she added silently.
