Hiding Ann
Annsuel left her home and her name of Elodiel behind in Gondor when she came to Bree. Her experiences from her father turned her opinion towards nobles to hatred. His lessons in her past mainly related to being above a commoner, which Annsuel decided she was not. So upon entering Bree, she became Annsuel with no last name, no money, no home, nothing but the grey dress she wore, her grey hood, and her golden daggers stolen from her father’s estate.
A few days after she had arrived to Bree, a woman had come to her and the two went to the back of the local inn, The Prancing Pony. In the back rooms, the two spoke of a topic that Annsuel had felt quite passionate about, nobles. A group who worked to rid nobles from Bree. Annsuel joined the group and became a member of Indignation.
Though the fight they fought turned not to be the safest thing. Enemies at every turn and one noble by the name of Lord Gerwolf Thaladuin became their greatest enemy. There was a hunt for those of Indignation, led by the Lord. And Ann found herself terrified by every shadow for she feared his men would discover who she was and capture her as a member of Indignation. So with this threat holding above her head, Annsuel found a beautiful blue dress, removed her hood, and wore a circlet instead and pretended to be just another sweet girl in the Pony. She was good at fooling people, and good at acting nice if she needed to.
However, the hatred of nobles grew in her chest, but there were secrets she kept from her friends. Secrets of her past, her love, and her fear. Strong was what she showed, but on the inside, the restless fear ate through her. The only person in Bree who knew her secret was a man she should classify as an enemy, yet all she felt for him was love. She trusted him, despite the fact they had not known one another for long. How far would her trust go though? She told him of her past, of being a part of Indignation. She swore to herself she would not reveal secrets of Indignation to him. She couldn’t betray her friends.
Oh, Harly would kill her if she found out about him. Lord Gerwolf would kill her if he found out who she was. Who wouldn’t kill her? That question burned in Annsuel’s head. If the watch discovered she was a part of Indignation, they would arrest her. Annsuel did not know who would protect her and who would betray her. All she knew was that she needed to survive.
Could she trust him? The debate in her head continued to drive through for hours on end. And then she realized she was still in the Pony, with her lute still in her hands and her fingers playing instinctively. The light of the fire lit her blue dress and her blue eyes. Yes, she would trust him. She would trust Indignation. And she would trust herself. No one else.
