Golwenon at first glance seems a typical elf of Lorien, of average height and weight for a male elf. Though not of a particularly noble bloodline, he bears the high cheekbones and noble jaw of the fair folk of that wood. His long hair, golden like Mallorn trees in the autumn, is worn long with elaborate braids, and his eyes shift from the deep blue of a cloudless sky to the blue-grey of a stormy sea depending on the light and his mood. His generous mouth is often twisted in a smile, mirthful and easy when he is joyful, hard and sardonic when he is not. He wears most often the uniform of I' Hosse, which lends him an air of military regality belied by his smooth minstrel's movements and his easy laugh. The blues and golds of the uniform offsets his eyes and his hair, and he accents the outfit with fine cloaks and many articles of jewelry, most of which he makes himself. It is not unusual to see him bedecked with earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings of his own design, resting just on the tasteful side of ostentatious. As a minstrel he most often sings, in a low, clear voice. When he accompanies himself it is on a lute, perhaps not as fancy as some, but holding great sentimental value for him. He often travels astride a bay stallion, so dark as to be almost black, named Morloch. |

Background
Golwenon Caedhrog hails from the Elf-woods of Lothlorien, though he would say it has been far too long since he has seen his home. Born third of four children, his elder brother and father were lost when the shadow fell on the Greenwood. Golwenon himself joined the Glirdain, a prestigeous brotherhood of minstrels in Lorien to which his mother was also a member. For many years he studied the tales and songs of old, and learned to compose his own. He learned a deep love for elvish history, but as he fell into the past he gradually drifted away from his mother and his surviving siblings.
When Angmar fell upon the men of the west, and the elf-lord Glorifindel led an army of elves to their relief, Golwenon accompanied them as a chronicler and minstrel, along with his dearest friend and fellow Minstrel Theredir. This was a transformative experience for the elf, for in the Battle of Fornost Theredir died in his arms, and Golwenon slew his first orc.
Upon returning to Lothlorien after the campaign, Golwenon became increasingly unhappy within the Glirdain. It was a minor scandal when he left the prestigious organization, but he felt he had to follow his heart, and his heart told him that remaining in the safety of Lorien was not something he could do. He began to serve as a messenger between Lorien and the other elf-lands throughout Middle Earth.
As a trained minstrel and messenger, Golwenon was often sent far and wide to carry messages from Lorien to the other Elf-homes across Middle Earth. While his experience was primarily with the Elf-Folk, there were many songs and tales that he learned and sang and spoke throughout the wide land. But then the Shadow grew in the east. The roads began to fail. Suddenly even the elves found it was difficult to communicate between the realms.
As the events that would become known as the War of the Ring began, Golwenon found himself cut off in Ered Luin, far from his home. This is no longer a time for messengers. Nor is it a time for Elves to keep to themselves. With the roads no longer fit for messengers, Golwenon has become a fighting minstrel. With his brethren in I' Hosse, he shall ride to fight the Shadow.
Many songs and tales he shall write and sing and tell of his journey!
