A Battle Against Snow and Memories

Teleyn opened the door and was almost blinded by the light outside. She stepped out and shut the door firmly behind her, looking at the white expanse before her.

"Snow..." she recalled.

The wind nipped at her nose and she crossed her arms to preserve warmth. Still, she had training to do and walked forward with determination. On the first step, her boot immediately sunk deep into the snow. Her momentum was abruptly halted and while her boot remained in place, her body was flung forward into the snow.

Her fall was cushioned, but the cold quickly seeped into her clothes and crawled across her skin. Raising her head slowly, Teleyn wiped the snow from her face. She placed a hand down into the snow to raise herself, but her weight broke through the surface and was consumed by the snow like her boot.

Flailing in the snow, she finally rolled over and moved gently until she managed to crawl back up towards the door of Dawnhall. As she got to her feet and opened the door, she took a defeated look at the lawn. The clean smooth snowscape was now punctured and raised at various points, where her body had tossed up snow. She had given it a good fight, but today was no day for training.

Teleyn shut the door tightly, leaving the wind and snow behind her. She slipped out of her boots and walked into the main hall taking off her hauberk. It dripped across the floor as the snow melted off until Teleyn left it to dry by the fire. Outside, snow was still falling heavily and there was nothing to be done but stay indoors.

Yet, what was there to do? Teleyn was quite tired of sounding out the alphabet to herself, her fingers were cramped from holding a quill, and no matter how long she blew into her flute it wasn't making the right sounds.

It was one of those days. Teleyn held her arms together as she looked out the window. She shivered, remembering the cold. But there was something peaceful about the way the snowflakes danced in the wind and floated down to join the others on the ground...

For a moment, an image flashed across her eyes. This same same, but through a different window...She shivered. It was cold in that memory.

Closing her eyes, she turned her back on the snowy sight and towards the warm fire. Looking around the hall, Teleyn decided that it was a good day to clean. She should earn her keep somehow.
