My Travel Journal: The Last Glance

THE LAST GLANCE BEHIND

In the moonlight Bree looked rather cosy village to live in , I felt almost bad as I had to leave such a place so soon, were there raiders or not (that is what the Town Watch in Bree told us last night. If only I could remember her name). I'd only hope my friends would get the short letter written by me and stay safe... one wandering halfling may be a wonder but not drawing too much attention, but four hobbits stand  out like a sore thumb and seeing they are having Tukko with them, I really hope they at least have some proper weapons along (not because of Tuk but perhaps on account of his charm). I did buy a small dagger and a bow at Lalia's Market yet I do not know if I'll need them after all.

I followed the road that led me away from Bree to a tiny village called Staddle - in Bree I heard that most of its dwellers are hobbits and there I indeed saw many round doors and windows not much above the ground. Staddle reminded me of the Shire somewise, and not only because of the hobbit holes but also the little fields and familiar grass under toes and flowers that I recognised.

There was a little spring close to Staddle, I stopped there for a few minutes to drink and munch a couple of apples before continuing the walk towards my first camp-to-be.

STOPPING TO HAVE A FEW MINUTES' REST

After Staddle I kept following the road, trusting that I would see no one and indeed I was allowed to wander alone unless the nighty voices emanating from north; a chirp that did not cease even for a moment and no matter how far I walked, I could still hear it. I will sleep under a tree tonight for I am not too sure how far the Inn is and I am tired, still not being even sure if Silas was brought this way or if the brigands went to north or even south... but Amey let me take a look at her maps and there should be nothing in the south but ruins and in the north they should ride straight through Trestlebridge.

SLEEPING UNDER TREE AFTER A HEARTY MEAL

Tomorrow I will continue to the Forsaken Inn, maybe stay overnight there and ask the locals if they know anything about my pony. I was intending to wait my friends there but it is hurry already, we should have not spent so many nights in Bree, we should have kept walking the following day we arrived to Bree. And if I will not find Silas before Rivendell, then I think this is a bit too much of an adventure for a simple halfling of the Shire, I will return back and maybe purchase a new pony in Bree. We shall see tomorrow if I find out some news.
