My Travel Journal: Two Nights in Bree

Yesterday I met Amorey and Tukko in the Pony which was quite a surprise. I was in my thoughts, sitting there on my bed (comfortably soft with its warm checkered bedlinen) as they showed up - at first opening slightly the door and then yanking it wide open. Old Butterbur had forgotten to give them the keys, I even heard some of the Tall Folk pondering that his remembrance is getting worse and worse and I must agree. Amey told me something about the Shire Rose pendant that has to be brought to Rivendell (once I met an Elf who called it also Imladris and that sounds better to me). I wonder if even she knew why but I am going with them unless the brigands are taking Silas to another direction.

Soon we had a small raid in Barliman's kitchen (I left him a small refund today) ... our pillage feels very nice in bellies. There were fresh mushrooms (Tuk gone wild), taters, carrots, even couple of pies, ale and beer (Amey gone wild), pork and chicken... it was a hearty meal that and I didn't feel hungry for a long time after that.

This morning I spent time wandering around the Bree-town and talking with some Hobbit-folk there. There were many things worth seeing: a lonely bard in front of the Prancing Pony, Jasmine's Garden, people and a little town square and the Lowbank's Estate where I met Mrs. Lowbanks - she told me to stay away from the Beggar's Alley, saying that "Behind the Mud Gate one might lose one's properties if you're lucky". I asked her what would happen if I was unlucky. With an odd smile she uttered: "In that case you'll lose your life, sweetie". I do not know whether I liked her or not but at least she was not unhospitable. When I left, I didn't leave with an empty stomach.

When I was returning to the Prancing Pony, I saw Amey leaning against the bench in front of the Pony, just next to the little fountain. I could notice that she was very excited as she spoke with her silly Overhillian accent: "I want to show you something! Come!"

Near to the Pony there was an inconspicuous little door and behind it there was a big market place! There were many kinds of things, mostly clothes but also saddles for horses and other accessories, hats, trousers, shirts, helmets and shoes, backpacks ... it was an amazing place but sadly the prices were truly high. I almost took up my wallet once.

Later we met Bennidict, a dwarf with a pony called Anemone (he seemed very familair to me but I can't recall why), one longshank twaddling about stabbings and Tahitoa was waiting in our room when I came back to rest and left Benni and Amey listen rumours.

Before going to bed I found my deer sculpture inside the backpack even though I don't remember packing it too. It looked almost undamaged, only couple scratches on its antlers and back. I shall be more careful next time when looking what to take along with me.
