Journey into the Barrow downs II - First steps

It was still raining and the sky was beginning darken. The group now walked a few paces South of Bree before they turned right and went West towards the Barrows. They conversed as they went. They spoke about the Barrows and what they may just find there, this only made Eofeole's confidence rise like a bright sun in a clear summer's morning. He smiled excitably most of the way, but soon he became irritated as Colson set an arrow to his bow and fired it at a boar. He did not take the animal's corpse with himself nor did he remove it's hide for tanning. "Fool of a Bree-lander that lad, allowing such a good kill go to waste." Eofeole muttered as he continued to walk on.

They then turned North as they got to another road which trailed along the side of the river, the hedge of Bree Town was now to their right as they proceeded. Soon enough they heard shouting coming from the distance behind, "Wait! Wait!" And down the road came Bramson running along to meet up with the rest of the group. They welcomed him heartily but as they looked back they noticed a bridge which spanned the river, "A bridge!", Isaura called out. The rest of the company all looked between each other with confusion. Eofeole looked at each of the Bree-landers, Threland,Colson and Bramson sternly as he assumed they would know the lands. "Well, come now, lads. Let us cross it!" He said and led the way to the bridge.

Across they went and for a few more minutes they went on, Colson ran ahead excitably. Eofeole shook his hood and walked after at his swift walking pace. He went around a rock-like wall and found Colson sitting there, "It's about time." He said. Eofeole growled and yelled at Colson, "Fool! Stop rushing and wait for the rest of us!" He sighed and peered to Colson's right. There was a gap in the mountain and within it seemed gloomy and at the Entrance there lied a corpse of a man. The group ran up to the corpse and stooped. They frowned as they looked at him, none could have imagined what had caused his death, nor did they want to. "The lad looks to have been dead here for a long time and nobody has yet given him a proper burial." Said Colson who shook his head sadly. "Perhaps we should do so?" replied Bramson. There was a moment of silence as the group looked to each other, considering whether they should, Eofeole broke the silence "We should do so, but on our way out I would say." All agreed with him and then he turned walking into the Barrow Downs confidently, the rest followed and often Colson ran ahead.

There were dogs which appeared cruel by a single a glance. A few of these vicious dogs they felled, there were also worm-like creatures but as large as the arm of a fully grown man. But on the company went in search of a Barrow, some might say trouble but still they went on. A few minutes passed till they found it. A mound with a stoned-arched door way, a stench came from within and the air felt cold.

It seemed so inviting, as to seduce any who passed to enter the opened door way and meet a cruel fate within. But it seems that this company would heed no warning or stop at naught...
