A Change

Who would have believed it possible? After years, decades, centuries of dark thoughts, after living with those light-minded Falathlorn elves for all the time and being sick of them. Of their laughter and their unconcern. Who would have thought that a group of mortals would be able to change something in Morneth's life?

She had rarely left her house before, rarely went to the spheres of men, feeling the darkness there, too, that had crept over her beloved Greenwood already. And then the one rare occasion she had been to Bree, a mortal happened to approach her. A woman with dark hair and a dark way that reminded Morneth strangely of something she could not name at first. Later she realised it was herself.

It had been some months now, not even a year, and not only had she spent time with this woman and her friends, not only had she started to make music again - together with this group of men; she had even invited them into her home. She had for the first time in ages started to share her life again with other beings - others than her dark and always bad-tempered horse Eirien and her faithful raven Morniel.

And now - a concert. She could not believe they had really done it. She could not believe how much she had enjoyed it, for the first time after centuries enjoyed herself, enjoyed being with others - including halflings and even dwarves! How nice the atmosphere was, at this dwarven place, the light shining through the roof, the small spots of lanterns some of the audience had brought, the dancing of the brave little halflings, who seemed not afraid of the dark lyrics at all.

What a change this all made!
