Outward Appearance

Gafford "Ford" Hornbranch is a youth of twenty-two, standing at 5'6ft, with a neatly-tended beard and well-oiled hair typically tied into a short ponytail. At first glance, it becomes rather obvious that he's of Bree-stock, as his speech pattern is heavily reminiscent of those who live in the town, along with his distinct plain Bree-ish looks, having a matched set of brown hair and eyes.

He's often dressed in loose, practical garb, comfortable and well-worn, but still perfectly serviceable. While not armed, he has a tendency to carry his blacksmithing hammer around, and often walks about with clothes covered in soot and dust. He's always seen wearing a pair of green gloves, a gift from a good friend.

Background

(W.) Gafford: Unknown Origin, birth name
(W.) Ford: A shallow place in a river where one can wade across, nickname
(W.) Hornbranch (Horn + branch): A small Breeish clan originally from Combe, last name

"I like the ring o' the hammer. It brings me comfort an' steadyness, 'specially on hectic days where orders are croppin' up left and right. A blacksmith's life might be all about forgin' something of use - but it's the steady blow of a hammer tha' really brings it together." - Gafford

Born and raised in Combe as the middle child of an accountant mother and her farmer husband, Gafford, or more often simply Ford, was first an apprentice under the Smith Robb Statler, alongside his two childhood friends Hudd Forester and the smith's daughter, Ellinor Statler.  A curious, bookish type, young Ford was infamous in his childhood days, known for getting into fisticuffs with other boys and often defending his younger sister Hilda from those who would make fun of her. He loved books, however, and his aunt Sandra would often take him to the Scholar's Stair so he could learn how to read.

Eventually, however, young Ford's disposition became more meek and withdrawn, and he lost his reputation for fistfighting and trouble-making. No one knows what the trigger was for the change in behaviour, but with time (and Ford's newfound habit of keeping his nose to the grindstone), the questions stopped, and it seemed life would go on as normal -- until one day, the young man inexplicably took off and left the village.

Why he left the forge is a mystery in itself, but shortly after leaving Ford resurfaced in Bree and took on a job under the Master Smith Emory Hucklebush, where he would continue to work for the next one-and-a-half years.

Friends
Tylva is currently his closest confidant. Fond of Audea, Abelor, Owena, Baldvin and Hawke. He will always have a place in his heart for Ellinor and Hudd despite leaving them behind.
Relatives
His family, consisting of a mother, Clarabelle, a father, Layton, an older brother, Finn, and a younger sister, Hilda. He also has an aunt, Sandra, and considers his puppy Thimble a member of the family.
Rivals/Enemies
He's not aware of anyone who dislikes him enough.
Loves
History and lore, relaxed conversation, his employment. Pumpkin tarts. Being treated well, knowing what to expect in a person. Reading to people. His family and his puppy.
Hates
Being mocked over his difficulties with reading and writing, wet cat and dog smell, burning himself by the forge. Brutish behaviour, and regards most foreigners with a healthy degree of waryness when met. The hurt in people's eyes, when it appears.
Motivation
Learning enough to be considered a Master Blacksmith.
Quotes
"Food is always in demand, but you can always count on a blacksmith to have pots and pans at hand." - Ford, "Gathered Thoughts - Outsiders"
