Outward Appearance

Matilda Maywort (usually called Maudie) is a young hobbit whose favors hand-me-down tunics over long dresses. Her eyes are dark green, and she has a wide upturned nose. Maudie's skin is freckled, somewhat tan from the sun, and her curly auburn hair is usually tangled. On one of her more recent journeys, it had to be chopped short after getting snagged in a rosebush. Maudie is exactly 3'1 feet tall with few curves, and she has the curious habit of wearing boots as often as possible.

Background

Maudie is a young hobbit who came of age two years ago. Although her family originally hails from the Southfarthing, Maudie was born in Waymeet. Raised for most of her life in a cherry wood wagon, she spent much of her youth traveling across the Shire. Her parents could never hold a stable job, and although they each tried their hardest, their family of seven has always been poor. Maudie and her four older brothers received little formal education, but they learned trades through apprenticeships and learned their letters from their formerly-wealthy, educated mother. From Little Delving to Brockenborings and beyond, the family moved constantly but eventually settled down in Budgeford as their children grew older. Maudie was the last to leave, and she decided to wander back to her familial roots: the village of Pindon, hidden deep in the Southfarthing. While exploring her own family history, Maudie also took on the office of Town Historian in Pindon (following the untimely demise of her predecessor, who died the year prior in a plowing accident). Appalled by the sheer lack of documentation regarding the town's past and present, she made it her duty to compile all the history that she could, whether in the form of fact or folklore. Even as the people of her newfound home are scattering for larger towns, in pursuit of fresh sights and new work, Maudie has decided to remain at her homestead in Pindon Village, immortalizing its history, and keeping the village as organized as she can.
Although it gets lonely from time to time, her door is always open to anyone in the Shire who has found themself in need of a cup of tea (or a pint of cider), and has a tale to tell.
