Born in Oserley, to the North of the Broadacres of Rohan. Ceolwulf was the youngest of four, have two older brothers and a sister. His father Ferondor was a farrier and helped to look after the horses of the nearby village of Stoke. His mother Marthia worked in herblore and was a well respected healer. Ceolwulf grew up wanting to join the men of Westfold who had heard many stories of whilst helping his father. As a young lad he would run about practicing sword play with his brothers. On his thirteenth name day he was given a sword by his uncle which he would spend hours sat by the edge of the Entwash sharpening the blade. It was for this reason his young friends gave him the name Sharpie in common tongue.

It was also during one of these times that Sharpie escaped the notice of the Wildmen who had come to raid the village. Seeing the houses burning he knew hope was lost and crept into the flow of the entwash, swimming upstream towards the forest. From here he made his way towards the west and eventually came upon Bree where he took up training with a smithy and swore one day he would return to his homelands and seek revenge on the wildmen.
