Folk of the Last Homely House
This page (a kinsite is yet to come)
|Founding date||Year 1697 of the Second Age|
|Goal||To portray the simple folk of Imladris, and fill the house of Elrond with residents of various roles, and through them greatly and deeply enrich the lore-immersive enviroment and create a lasting living community in the Last Homely House|
|Main area of operations||The Last Homely House|
Cirdan's people, the Galadhrim, and the Rangers of the North
After the destruction of Eregion, the refuge of Rivendell was founded by Elrond in the Second Age of Middle-earth in the year 1697. In all the days of the Third Age, after the fall of Gil-galad, Master Elrond abode in Imladris, and he gathered there many Elves, and he preserved through many lives of Men the memory of all that had been fair; and the house of Elrond was a refuge for the weary and the oppressed, and a treasury of good counsel and wise lore. In that house were harboured the Heirs of Isildur, in childhood and old age, because of the kinship of their blood with Elrond himself, and because he knew in his wisdom that one should come of their line to whom a great part was appointed in the last deeds of that Age.
Elrond symbolises throughout, the ancient wisdom, and his House represents Lore – the preservation in reverent memory of all tradition concerning the good, wise, and beautiful. It is not a scene of action but of reflection.
The characters of this kinship are Elves of Imladris and simple folk of that part of the household of Elrond that consists of servants, handmaidens, and other mere residents in his house that were not related to him. For a household does not exclusively consists of a family and relatives only. It may also refer to various people living together in one house collectively. Furthermore, this kinship has no IC ranks/authorities; and so there is no IC leader or founder (other than master Elrond himself who long ago founded the refuge of Imladris).
As the represantive picture of this kin shows above, think of our characters as residents that the Last Homely House surely had: serving-folk at meal-times, handmaidens, weavers, spinners, gardeners, doorwards -who greet and open the doors in welcome, rather than acting as stern guards-, artificers, historians, poets, minstrels, healers, and more. To reflect such roles, members are expected to dress accordingly, after a simple and yet fair fashion. Robes, silk and linen, and dresses for the Elf-women. Shoes and not boots (when indoors at least). And bearing no armour and weapons. Each member will need to take up at least one of these (or other fitting) roles for his character.
In days to come we shall have a great gathering which will occur every Wednesday at 2PM servertime (come earlier or later than that if you cannot make it at that time) in the Hall of Fire; and then it will be rich in music and song and poesy and story-telling and the light of laughter. And thus they will also naturally take part in the Hall of Fire event. Elvish melodies (to play in-game) as well as songs and poems can be provided for members, and with the songbook (which lets you browse in-game your abc-song files and play them with a click of a button) and poetical plugin (which helps to swiftly and easily sing lyrics, and also to recite tales or poems) they will have easy access to many choices.
Though the kin is based solely in Rivendell, in days to come we may go together at times beyond the borders of the Valley for special lore-inspired events such as:
* Pilgrimages to the Tower Hills to see the Elostirion-Stone (which alone of the palantiri was so made as to look out only west over the Sea, afar at Eressëa and the Shores of Valinor, close to which it lay) when the yearning of exile is upon the High-Elves.
* Weddings or other celebretations of their kindred far away in other Elven settlements.
* Escorts to the Grey Havens when one of the housefolk decides to depart from Middle-earth.
* Last but not least, to the wedding of Arwen Undomiel away to Gondor in Minas Tirith, when the day comes.
Few notes of importance:
For one mithril coin (which can be bought for a few Turbine Points at the stable of Bree) one can swift-travel to Rivendell. Therefore level is not a barrier to get there, nor a requirement for the kin. Low-level characters created just for it are welcomed.
Kin-chat is OOC. But way too off-topic talk (matters and topics outside the game) is not encouraged.
Music-makers (abc-transcribers) and musicians this kinship shall ever have need of; for one of the goals is to form a group of minstrels to bring forth through their melodies and song the beauty of the Eldar and that of the Elder Days. So if you create (or just enjoy playing) music (even if you do not rp), your elvish-melodies would be highly prized in this kin, as music is a greatly important feature for this design.
Those who wish to rp more light-hearted and merry characters (for example like we see in the chapter A Short Rest from The Hobbit) or indeed even Elf-children (like we see in the Cottage of Lost Play from the History of Middle-earth and also in LotR from Sam's words ''Elves here, and Elves there! Some like kings, terrible and splendid; and some as merry as children.'') are welcome to join.
Regarding role play and lore knowledge, though this kinship greatly values players well learned in elvish lore and rp, beginners are also very much welcomed and needed as long as there is a want for learning. Therefore, we wish for all our members, -both learned and beginners- to join us in the Arda Channel: the lore and role play resource communication channel wherein most lovers of the books and Middle-earth role players can be found together on the server, and where the Tolkien Reading Day event occurs every week.
If you share a love for Tolkien Elves, elvish lore, and music, then come! Come and join in this great design and let us all together create times in the house of Elrond that minds and hearts will be full of wonder, ere an end is come for the Eldar of story and of song; for these times we all play in Middle-earth were for the Firstborn the Fading Years, and in them the last flowering of the Elves east of the Sea came to its winter.
