Background
Lestarg Stoneskin grew up on a farm at the northern borders of Bree-land. His father was a farmer called Lesgorm Windwheat. The Windwheat family had worked for the lords of Bree-land as long as anyone could remember and it would be hard to find any family more loyal to the motherland. Lesgorm often bragged to the neighbours about the fact that his "noble house" even existed in the days of the kings. "Those days were better from what I´ve heard. No one ever went hungry, and the land was safe and beautiful.” he used to say.
Lestarg loved is mother and father very much, and always tried to do their will as best as he could, but he didn't share their love for the life on the farm. Lestarg was more interested in the stories who spoke of brave knights of old. He dreamed of joining the garrison, and the day he turned twenty he left his family home for Bree. There he was accepted into the garrison even though he turned out to be a second-rate swordsman. One of the older officers took a liking to him and made it his obligation to train the inexperienced young man.
Five years passed, during which Lestarg developed greatly in both physical strength and maturity. He was now a fairly good fighter and could probably take on any of the veterans of the garrison in one-to-one combat. The lands around Bree are always relatively safe, but sometimes brigands or other, fouler beings show up to steal and plunder. When the eight summers since Lestarg´s coming to Bree came, such creatures once again showed themselves.
A band of orcs had dared venture far from the ettenmoors into the west. They had fought many on their way to Bree-land, which from what they have heard held great riches, and had finally reached their destination. When word came to Bree of the orcs pillaging and murdering Lestarg and nineteen other soldiers were sent to the north. Their objective was to aid the garrison at Trestlebridge against the orcish onslaught.
Lestarg was wounded in the battle, but not severely - and he managed to kill the one who had caused the wound; a tall, foul-looking, orcish clubman.
After the battle he learned however that his parents' farm was one of those who had fallen to the orcs before they had been defeated. His grief was big and he swore to dedicate his life to protecting his countrymen from the evils of the land. He was kicked out of the garrison some months later because the officers were tired of his constant war-mongering.
Of what happened to him during the following two years little is known other than that he travelled here and there looking for work. He served some time under the mayor of Testlebridge but was kicked out of there as well for the same reasons as with the guardsmen of Bree.
But then one night he returned to Bree a changed man. He had learned to control his temper and not always say whatever came into mind. He had learned more of the world outside Bree-land and also honed his fighting skills. He tried to once more seek employment with the garrison, but was declined since they had not forgotten why he got booted in the first place. After that minor setback he instead looked for work within the voluntary militia where he was accepted.
About the name Stoneskin
One day during a patrol at the southern borders of Bree-land Lestarg and his companions was ambushed by a band of pillaging half-orcs. The battle was fierce and many fell to the blade of their savage enemies. They managed to drive the bandits off however and the battle was won. But Lestarg had in the final stages of the battle been pierced by an arrow. It hit him in the gut, but miraculously enough he was barely even wounded by the deadly projectile. His companions praised his luck and gave him the name Stoneskin. Some of them even claimed that he could not be harmed in battle - Something that was proved wrong later, when the young swordsman recieved a grave cut in the chest after a skirmish with orcs.
