With ancestors and family in the lands of Dale, Thorudil was a stranger in new lands in his youth. In earlier days members of his family travelled towards Eriador for reasons unknown. However, at some point during their travels, a warband of orcs ambushed the people, and killed most of them. He survived somehow, and was raised partially in a small settlement of elves and men in Trollshaws. Due to this he has a deep friendship with many elves of the land, and also men.

 In later years Thorudil continued training with sword. He learned both men and elven techniques, and thus became quite skilled. He also inhibited a certain skill to boost those around him, cheer them up to greater deeds. For this he became a captain - a man at the forefront of many the battles.

 Hating orcs, Thorudil spent a year with elves and dwarves up in the Misty Mountains. There he sought and eradicated many the orcs that tried to enter the vally of Imladris.
