It is said that if a dwarf was born on the surface and not under the mountain, he will always have his heart full of sky, and there's nothing sadder than a star-longing mountain dweller. 
But Starald's parents wished so greatly to be among the first settlers of the restored Kingdom under the Mountain that they took a risk of travelling from Iron Hills to Erebor with Starald's mother being heavily pregnant... you can guess the rest. Well, at least they acquired the best mine in Erebor!.. And got the worst son they could imagine. 
Since his short-bearded childhood Starald preferred battle-songs to actual battles and poetry to mining. And though foes and friends alike tended to run away in terror when he started to sing, Starald never gave up on his minstrel ways. 
In a desperate attempt to improve his skills and seeking inspiration for his music Starald left Erebor and now travels the lands with his friend Houstor, the only person who really likes Staralds singing.
