Background
Virthalion grew up in the forests of Greenwood the Great, now known as Mirkwood. From a young age he studied the land around him, seeking to understand the whispers of the winds, the song of the waters and the lament of the trees who remembered the darkness and corruption that befell the woodland with the arrival of the Necromancer.
He spent many a day alone in contemplation of the wildlife around him, seeking to understand their nature. He learnt the languages of these creatures and conversed with them, listening to their tales of sorrow. He even spoke with the wolves of the forest on occasion, for he could not bring himself to believe that all of this race were born evil any more than he could believe that all of the race of man were weak and easily broken. Virthalion understood the sorrows of Greenwood as only a lore master could, but this understanding cost him companionship with many of his kin, who were often at ill ease with his presence, his spirit being uncannily close to that of Mirkwood.
The exception to this was an elven hunter named Celdir, with whom after a chance encounter he struck up a close friendship. Celdir was quick to laughter and song, creating a welcome contrast to Virthalion's more solemn personality. When Virthalion began his research into the history of old in the hope of finding a cure for his beloved forests, Celdir accompanied him for a time. It was during this time that he earned the title of Draugul (powerful wolf); a chance encounter with wolves near a human village lead Celdir to call him this in jest. Although he was rather bemused by the title at first, the name became attached to him, both by the humans of that village who mistakenly believed it to be a title of importance and by other elves of his homeland; the elves found the name fitting for Virthalion's personality.
Eventually even Virthalion grew fond of it, in his own way. In the early days of his studies as a master of lore, he also began to study the art of the sword, mainly as a form of meditation; through this he gained some skill with a blade.
His travels in search for a stop to the corruption eventually brought him to the library of Lord Elrond. While in Imladris he offered his services to the Warband of Imladris, as he believed this would allow him to play a greater role in the fight against the darkness.
After the disbandment of the Warband of Imladris, Virthalion found himself welcomed amongst the folk of the Bar En Vanimar and has recently taken an oath to join this house as a kinsman. He was presented with a carved emerald in the shape of a swan drinking from a pool of water; the swan looks both vulnerable yet graceful, and is a reminder to Virthalion of his homeland.
He has since found himself returning to the reinstated warband, and to his position as a Shining Warrior of the Warband of Imladris, to fight alongside Khalis and Elisbeth against the forces of darkness that still remain in Middle Earth.
