Captain Greenfield

Name Greenfield
Appears to be in his early thirties
Outward Appearance

Captain Greenfield is about six feet six inches high with a tanned and pleasant complexion, and may be about some thirty years old. He tells the local folk that he ran away from home at the age of 12 to join Captain Burrows' crew of the ship the Mermaid

His hair is thick, curly, fine and silky, and is of a reddish gold hue. His forehead is broad and full but not high; the eyes are large, almond shaped, and bright blue in color, with long lashes curling up at the ends. His powerful, muscular body is a picture of health and robustness, grace and symmetry. The Line of Castamir is strongly marked in his countenance, and like his forebears he comprehends quickly; he is inventive, as well as an imitator, and he can perceive old methods and ways in a new light. In all matters of business he sees things from a pragmatic point of view. While his tastes are luxurious, his expenses seem little to him, as he has amassed a tremendous fortune. Outwardly a very goodly man with a noble mien and princely bearing, he is a man of business with a natural proclivity for meticulousness and order, who inherited from his forebears a tendency to ambition, as well as a talent for mathematics, architecture, astronomy, and sailing.

His real name is Azrazôr (Adûnaic for 'Sea-fire'*) He is a Corsair of Umbar, one of the descendants of the King's Men of Umbar, known perjoratively in some circles as the 'Black Númenóreans.'

His bloodline can be traced back to an unknown illegitimate son of Castamir the Usurper, who reigned Gondor during the T.A. 1437 - 1447. Castamir was descended from Calimehtar, son of Calmacil, son of Atanatar II, son of the last Ship-King Hyarmendacil I.

The traits of the House of Hador, third house of the Edain, who made up the greater part of the Númenóreans, are evident in his physique and temperament. No lesser Man's blood taints his Númenórean lineage.

Hardy and enduring in cold and distances, strong, tall, bold and steadfast, swift in body, with blue eyes, fair skin, and golden hair, those of the House of Hador were said to be noble and generous, ready in mind and quick to anger and laughter. They were also said to be the most warlike of the three houses.**

Azrazôr inherited many of the characteristics of his House of Hador forefathers, but not all of them.

*: We call such phenomenon St. Elmo's Fire.

About, about, in reel and rout,
The death fires danced at night;
The water, like a witch's oils,
Burnt green and blue and white.

-Samuel T. Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
