Turnips and Garlic, Turnips and Garlic,
Turnips and Garlic for stew,
Brother and Sister, down by the river,
Fetching us Turnips for stew!
Out came the badger, out out came the badger,
Smelling a Turnip or two.
Chased us away, through the trees and the hay,
We brought home no Turnips for stew.
Gaffer brought Garlic, Gaffer brought Garlic,
Gaffer brought Garlic for stew.
Out in the glade with his bucket and spade,
He brought us some Garlic for stew!
Now we haven't got Turnips, haven't got turnips,
Haven't got turnips to brew.
But Mushrooms we've got, to be roast in a pot,
Mushrooms and Garlic for stew.
