Feveren

Feveren Tawardil, Friend of the Wild
| Name | Feveren |
|---|---|
| Status | Active |
| Occupation | |
| Age | Young (only recently deemed full-grown) |
| Race | Elf |
|---|---|
| Residence | The great greenwood of Harlindon, but now he is wandering the Westlands |
| Kinship | Noss-e-Laegrim |
| Outward Appearance |
His rustic garb is of the colours of the forest, his brow is unadorned, and his feet are unshod; he is girt with neither blade nor bow, but bears instead a stout staff of elm for a walking stick. His honey-hued skin suggests Nandorin descent and you guess then that he is a Silvan Elf,3 but why he has forsaken his secluded woodland home, you cannot say.

1. Assuming that, as a traveller, you have indeed seen folk of the various Elven races that grew from the Sundering of the Elves. 2. "Not until the fiftieth year did the Eldar attain the stature and shape in which their lives would afterwards endure, and for some a hundred years would pass before they were full-grown." 3. In truth, the Silvan Elves (Tawarwaith) were descendants of the Nandor who lingered in the Vales of Anduin during the Great Journey, and thus denote either the Galadhrim or the Elves of Mirkwood, not the Nandor who entered Beleriand and became the Green-elves of Ossiriand. But to the eyes of the common beholder, they might appear alike (though not to other Elves, no doubt.)

Background
"In Eriador Imladris was the chief dwelling of the High Elves; but at the Grey Havens of Lindon there abode also a remnant of the people of Gil-galad the Elvenking. At times they would wander into the lands of Eriador, but for the most part they dwelt near the shores of the sea building and tending the elven-ships wherein those of the Firstborn who grew weary of the world set sail into the uttermost West. Cirdan the Shipwright was lord of the Havens and mighty among the wise."
- The Silmarillion, "Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age"* * *
"In the beginning of this age many of the High Elves still remained. Most of these dwelt in Lindon west of the Ered Luin; but before the building of the Barad-dûr many of the Sindar passed eastward, and some established realms in the forests far away, where their people were mostly Silvan Elves."
- The Lord of the Rings, Appendix B, "The Second Age"

.: Feveren Tawardil :.
It is told that in the War of Wrath the lands of Beleriand were laid waste and sank beneath the deep waters of Belegaer, and Ossiriand (that had of old been named Lindon by the High Elves) was rent asunder and the mighty walls of Ered Luin were broken. Into that great gulf swept the sea, and by a new course the River Lhûn flowed into the firth; and the havens of Mithlond were raised by the folk of Gil-galad upon its shores, whence the First-born can still follow the Straight Road by ship and return to their kindred in Aman, the Blessed Realm, beyond the encircling seas.
And in the Second Age of the world, long ago, many of the Eldar still dwelt in Lindon, unwilling yet to forsake Beleriand of old where they had lived and laboured long. But there were those who crossed the Ered Luin and passed eastwards into the inner lands, many of whom were survivors of Doriath and Ossiriand; and they established realms among the Silvan Elves in the woods and mountains of Middle-earth.
The forebears of Feveren were Green-elves of Ossiriand who long abode within its elm-woods aforetime, and who lingered in Harlindon ever after. His mother and father were both born in those green-shadowed woodlands, as were their parents before them, and there Feveren was also begotten in the twilight of the Third Age.
He was a fanciful elf-child, and all his young life he hearkened to songs and tales of the Elder Days; thus a yearning was kindled in his heart to behold these far distant realms of his kindred, ere his kin take ship over the Uttermost Sea. And now, being but lately deemed full-grown by the elders of his clan who, sensing perhaps a change in the tides of the world, granted him leave to fare forth...

.: Notes :.
Concerning Green-elvish Language and Writing
Concerning Age in Relation to Appearance
"... little is now known of the Silvan Elvish. The Silvan Elves had invented no forms of writing, and those who learned this art from the Sindar wrote in Sindarin as well as they could."
