Occupation | Travelling Merchant |
Age | Not as young as he once was |
Race | Dwarf |

Outward Appearance | A stout, sharp-eyed Dwarf in a weathered coat, with a presence both unassuming and strangely magnetic, Vratni Copeprhand stands proudly despite his modest stature. His thick beard—rich and ruddy as a smouldering hearth—falls in carefully combed tresses over a tunic of deep green, well-worn and patched from years of travel and trade. A sturdy belt cinches his round middle, from which various pouches, trinkets, and curious charms dangle—each with a tale, or a price.
His boots are a mismatched marvel: yellowed leather cracked with time, yet polished with care. Eyes sharp beneath a furrowed brow twinkle with shrewd calculation or mischief, depending on the day. One hand is often raised in greeting, bargain, or bluff, and the other never strays far from his coinpurse—or a conveniently hidden cudgel.
Though his garb may seem humble, there is a keen craftsmanship to his attire, and a subtle flair—here a brass brooch, there a stitched sigil long faded—that suggests a Dwarf who values both profit and presentation. Ever ready with a grin—or a deal—he’s as much a fixture in Bree’s market as the stalls themselves. |

Background
Born in the lesser halls of the Blue Mountains to a long (but not particularly noble) line of tinkers, tinsmiths, and trinket-peddlers, Vratni Copperhand grew up surrounded by half-broken contraptions, shinies of uncertain origin, and a deep-rooted belief that value is in the telling more than the making.
Never one for delving or smithing, Vratni took to the road young, learning quickly that most folk will pay handsomely for anything wrapped in a good story and sealed with a wink.
Though his relatives consider him something between a wandering embarrassment and a national export, Vratni insists he is performing a vital role: “Promotin’ dwarven culture, one suspect artefact at a time.” Vratni often speaks (loudly) of a cousin named Dornik, who “got rich sellin’ decorative chisels to Gondorians.” Whether Dornik actually exists is up for debate.
He now operates primarily in Bree-land, having found the folk gullible enough to buy, polite enough not to ask, and chaotic enough for a dwarf like him to thrive. He claims to have a plan for everything—though it's unclear whether any of them extend beyond the next sale.

Relatives | Among kin, Vratni keeps loose ties with the Copperhands of the Blue Mountains—minor craftsmen and tinkerers, respectable enough to be embarrassed by him. |
Rivals/Enemies | Harbours an ongoing (and mostly one-sided) rivalry with a handful of other travelling merchants—especially those with actual credentials, attractive signage, or a tendency to follow the law too closely. |
Loves | Old maps, loose purses, secret routes, a warm pint, shiny things (value optional), and buyers who don’t ask questions. |
---|---|
Hates | Taxmen, guards, wet market days, rival peddlers with nicer signs, and elves selling “blessed” tat for double. |
Motivation | To make the Copperhand name famous (and profitable). Coin first—though a little respect wouldn’t hurt. |
Quotes | “Genuine artefacts! Lovingly mislabelled. No refunds, no regrets!” |
