Ambush at the Evendim Gate

I arrived at the Evendim Gate early this morning, heeding Nethdir’s request for aid. Many a men seek to gain coin, fame in the underworld, by usurping the relics of our people. Whether it is their own will, or another’s iron hand clutching their throat. I have heard tell of a betting arena at Ost Forod, a home of the most unruly sort. When I camped with the rangers in Amlaith’s scar, and the camp near it, they told me of the stories that they knew of tomb-robbers, that they experienced. I will have to write them another time. Another of our kin had joined us at the gate, Derynn, an envoy from Esteldin. Reassuring was the message that she brought, that she will provide aid to us if need be. Naithgor had also joined us. It was under the veil of twilight that I sent Limroval to scout ahead, to see if anyone else was coming. He returned after a hour with no news, and after the second time I sent him, nothing once again. I granted him rest, for far has he flew today. Nethdir and I spoke about the sadness of the fate of some Middle-Men. How they must rob and plunder ruined tombs and fortresses for relics of our kingdom. It was until the end of this small talk that Derynn came running towards us, proclaiming that a company, of tall and fair figures, from the southwest, were approaching. Fair horses did they have, and I deemed them not to be brigands, or tomb-runners. Estenthel also joined our ranks, acting as a scout, or something different, if needed.

Nethdir had called out towards the company that was laid before them, asking them of their business. "Daro! State your business here." I got my bow and nocked an arrow, one of the figures had done the same, our aim were fixed at each other, so that if one had shot, the other would as well. The response of the leader of the company, or at least the one that spoke and represented them was this: “We mean no harm, we simply seek to cross the gate of Evendim and go on with our errands.” It was the soft voice that had started to relieve me of my doubt, but quickly had it added more to it. The figure let down their hood, and with it, the deception that she was a woman, not an Elf. A female Elf with copper hair. Derynn’s assessment of them was certainly correct, tall and fair were they. It was decided for us to let them pass, and we did so, yet I had my eyes upon them. It was a good surprise to see the Eldar travelling in these times, so far away from their homes in Imladris and Mithlond. We bid our farewells to the Elven Company. After the company had left, Derynn had left as well, “To learn the land more”, she said. Nethdir told Naithgor and I that we had a task, that one of us would ride to Ost Forod, and the other to King’s Crossing to see if anything slipped through the cracks of our vigilance. I was the one to ride to Ost Forod. I gathered some supplies, and went upon Adhroch, and departed the Evendim Gate, heading towards the direction of Ost Forod.
