IC: This record once existed within Calth and was penned by an unknown writter. Should this document be found, it should be returned to the rightful Sons of Calth. However, it is presumed to be lost.
((OOC: Please do not come to anyone linked to Isilorbor saying that you have this document, this is stricly for reading and a storyline IC for the Sons of Calth))
First Legion:
Last known commander: Captain-General Calgur Ventris
Men at Arms: Six thousand
Banner: Golden Eagle
Fate: Destroyed
Comments:
The 1st Legion of Calth was lead personally by Calgur Ventris at the Battle of the Last Alliance. They fought valiantly along side their Captain-General, their numbers dropping after each battle, but never broke from battle.
The Legion was cut down before Isildur destroyed the Dark Lord, perhaps to make way for their master. If Calgur Ventris was among the dead, is unknown.
Second Legion:
Last known commander: Lord Galathorn Halthank
Men at Arms: Six thousand
Banner: Silver Shield
Status: Standing by
Comments:
Having been formed by Captain-General Calgur Ventris, the 2nd Legion was formed purely for defensive fighting. Manning the (At the time) Fort of Calth, the Legion quickly grew to become the city’s guardians.
This Legion has maintained itself since the Last Alliance, with great honors’ running along side them; The 2nd Legion has never faulted in the line of duty.
Third Legion:
Last known commander: Commander Thiraen Undil
Men at Arms: Three thousand
Banner: Mailed gold fist
Fate: Honorable discharged
Comments:
Thiraen Undil was given orders from his Captain-General to build an army based as highly trained storm troops. Undil had shown not only his own formidable fighting prowess, but that of his Legion.
Counter Attacks and storming actions earned the 3rd Legion many honors, always attacking never retreating. After twenty years after the Last Alliance, the Legion was granted by the Lords of Calth to disband. To this day, the 3rd Legion is hailed as one of the Calth’s finest.
Fourth Legion:
Last known commander: Captain Norvon Dormir
Men at Arms: One thousand
Banner: Used to have two crossed swords
Fate: Reorganized into City Guard
Comments:
Their commander had died outside the Black Gates of Mordor, whose name has been sadly lost. Over the course of the war, command fell to a young Captain Norvon Dormir. The 4th Legion suffered greatly during the battles, their numbers slowly dropping from six thousand men to only one thousand.
The Lords of Calth gave Captain Dormir a chose: Merge his Legion with another, or form under his command the City Guard. Norvon chose the latter, and the Legion records cased, but their deeds never forgotten.
Fifth Legion:
Last known commander: Daishorn Farnarir
Men at Arms: Unknown
Banner: A single silver arrow
Fate: Rumored to have formed the Rangers of Calth
Comments:
The Fifth Legion was the last to be formed by Captain-General Ventris, being the back bone of all archers for Calgur’s army. It is unknown exactly how many of the Legion there were, since many had supported the other four Legions, and it is therefore considered that the Legion rarely fought together.
What is known is that after the Alliance the Legion was under the command of a Daishorn Farnarir, a man of few words and silent action. He had told the Lords of Calth that he would not disband his Legion for a life of rich peace and being celebrated for his past deeds, rather then his current.
The Legion had left Calth the same night, leaving nothing but their tales in the hearts and minds of the people and were never seen again. Within the same year, the Rangers of Calth appeared.
Sixth Legion:
Last known commander: Lord Arathir Malen
Men at Arms: Four thousand
Banner: A snarling dragon head
Fate: Disbanded (dishonorable)
Comments:
Lord Arathir Malen was a member of the Lords of Calth, and a great support of the current Legate Ventris. At was at this time Calth had fallen from its past grace as the boarders of Gondor retracted and the fall of Arnor. The once great city was now a shadow of its past self, and many, even the great House Ventris, had become selfish land owners.
Lord Malen had raised a Legion to drive the orcs from the river banks and mountain ranges. His campaign was successful, funded by many Houses and supported many common families.
The downfall began as Arathir tired to take total power for himself, raiding his once past allies homes to swear loyalty to him or death. When the House Ventris came under such a raid, Milthir Ventris had been warned and was suitably protected.
He ordered the execution of Arathir Malen, his House’s finances taken by the city (To which they kept for themselves) and his Legion disbanded.
Seventh Legion:
Last known commander: Unknown
Men at Arms: Unknown
Banner: Unknown
Fate: Lost
Comments:
Records of the 7th Legion are so very few, and their greater details are lost. From what can be gathered is that Calth was invaded and came under heavy siege from orc forces. The 7th fought bravely, repelling every attack and counter attacking those that they banished.
The siege lasted for almost seven months, coming close to Calth’s downfall for the first time since its first founding. The Legion swore it would never happen again, and under orders from Legate Eartin Ventris to hold their line and not to attack, the 7th Legion left Calth.
What befell the Legion after they disobeyed orders is unknown. The Rangers of Calth had said that they last saw the Legion fighting on the banks of the Calthrian River and advancing beyond into orc held lands.
The fact that so little of the 7th Legion can be found has lead to the belief that Eartin Ventris had ordered the purge of the Legion’s records for breaking his orders, but seeing as records still exist, he showed some mercy in the fact that Calth was save from attack for many decades to come by their actions.
Eighth Legion:
Last known commander: Legate Lathen Ventris
Men at Arms: Five Thousand
Banner: Depicted picture of the Legate himself
Fate: Ambushed and annihilated
Comments:
Lathen Ventris was perhaps the foulest Ventris that ever graced the bloodline of the noble House. He had formed his own Legion and gave himself almost immunity from the law of Calth, passing out land titles and striping people of their own power to fuel his own and that of his allies.
Such was his vileness, a number of homesteads rebelled against him. Summoning his Legion, it seemed like a civil war was coming. His brother, Lathar Ventris, came to the Lords of Calth and pleaded for them to be rid of his brother’s power.
Lathen left to put down to revolts, not knowing that his brother had unseated him back in Calth, and it was Lathar that funded the rebellion, using his brother’s own funds to aid them.
By the time the Legate’s Legion was marching towards the rebels, the orcs played an ironic role. They fell upon the 8th Legion and butchered them all, including the Legate himself. The orcs, thinking themselves as victorious had known that the rebels were formed up and ready for battle.
Lead by Lathar Ventris, the rebels fell upon the orc army and won a glorious victory. He returned to Calth has a hero, and was offered the title of Legate for himself. To many people’s surprise, he refused.
Lathar Ventris promised the people and Lords of Calth that Ventris such as Lathen would never plague Calth again, and the seat of Legate would not be taken until the House of Ventris had redeemed itself.
Ninth Legion:
Last known commander: Lord Haltend Tengard
Men at Arms: One thousand
Banner: Different banners for different Chapters
Status: Standing by
Comments:
Five years after Lathar Ventris’ announcement, he made sure his brother’s stolen wealth and power was given back to those who he stole from. Unable to believe that a whole Legion had been lost, Lathar set in motion to make a new Legion that would never fall.
From what records at the time can say, Lathar had set the stage for a new Legion to be made, but it is unsure how the 9th Legion came to be.
Indeed, little is truly known about the 9th. What is know is that each Company is called a Chapter, and act as an independent force. Each Chapter of knights has their own traditions, methods of war, even to weapons and armour.
Lord Haltend Tengard is commander of the Legion, and only he and the current Legate truly know the workings of the 9th.
Tenth Legion:
Last known commander: Valdir Celen
Men at arms: Estimated at seven thousand
Banner: A blue river
Fate: Formed into the River Guard.
Comments:
The 10th Legion had been blessed with a large number of troops at the start of their founding. Having a Ventris serving as a sergeant and proving himself, it was the start of a new era for Calth.
The Calthrian River had always been a place of battle, and so the 10th were sent to put down another building invasion. The 10th fought bravely, but after almost two months of fighting, the Legion commanders found their forces spread fearfully thin.
General Withen Venor had been struck with an arrow to his neck and died, and many of the Legion commanders fell in battle.
The eyes of the Legion soon fell on Rendor Ventris, acting Captain of his Company. He made a daring, but bold move. He sent massagers to the homesteads asking for locals to join in the battle, even offering command positions to those who knew the lands better.
Rangers of Calth aided in the messages, commanding withdrawals to better fighting areas.
It was then that a common man called Valdir Celen had proven himself a quick minded man, having known the River better then anyone else. He soon took command of the Legion, and victory came in another three month’s time.
Valdir and Rendor both knew there would come a time when the River came under attack again, and both men turned to Talven Macragge. With his help, they build a number of defenses along the River banks and flood gates, while the Legion was turned into the River Guard.
Eleventh Legion:
Last known commander: General Jabal Falsen
Men at Arms: Nine thousand
Banner: A lightening bolt of gold
Fate: Besieged and slaughtered
Comments:
By far the largest of all Legions of Calth, General Jabal Falsen raised his army from not only Calth, but from the homesteads as well. This had never been done before, but the results were very impressive.
Lightly armed and armoured, the 11th Legion found for once that they outnumbered the orcs, and made them pay dearly. Falsen was a tactically brilliant commander, his second in command, First Captain Elendir Ventris, had won victory after victory along the River and even beyond in orc lands.
Elendir was wounded in battle, losing a leg and unable to fight on in the Legion, and was honored by being the first Legate of Calth in many years.
Jabal now took orders from his First Captain, but the Legate let his old General do what he would; his greatest mistake.
General Falsen had found himself being pushed into an old and forgotten line of forts dating back to Calgur Ventris’ days, and soon became besieged. Unable to send word to the Legate, or call for reinforcements, the Legion did not last the week.
Twelfth Legion:
Last known commander: Chief Warden Cern Bondar
Men at arms: Three thousand
Banner: A single bronze spear
Fate: Reorganized into Wardens of Calth
Comments:
Having learnt well that the homesteads can provide soldiers, a man called Cern Bondar approached the Lords of Calth with a request. To build a new Legion to protect the roads and paths of their homes.
Cern Bondar was given the rank of Chief Warden of Calth, and sent about building his Legion.
It is recorded that the River Guard were under attack and needed reinforcements. The Legion only had three thousand men and aimed to gain more, they had their orders by Legate Arador Ventris.
It was this battle that the names Shadowbane and Loghain first graced Calth. Fighting along side Isilordil Ventris, there’s three men would lead Calth into greatness once more.
With the war won, the Legion was now pressed to bring more results. It was when Legate Arador Ventris died that they would prove their worth.
Thirteenth Legion:
Commander: General Forsion Kalden
Men at Arms: Two thousand
Banner: Golden Eagle
Status: Standing by
Comments:
Formed by Legate Isilordil Ventris, his teacher and mentor lead the Legion in his place, while the Legate himself turned to lead the other two Legions.
The 13th was, at first, thought to be an ill omen. The number thirteen being an unlucky number by many, it has since proved quite different. Some of Calth’s greatest heroes have come from this Legion, and whose records are still gaining honor and glory.
This is a young Legion, but already the 13th honor roll is impressive.
