One Loss too Many

I'm becoming tired of this festering town. It seems that there are some fools who are stupid enough to stand in the way of the Network. Eddrick found me in the pub and dragged me into one of the back rooms. He seemed all worked up, practically frantic. He showed me a letter he'd intercepted, but I couldn't understand a word of it. He told me what it said, and he seemed extremely concerned by it.

It read that a watcher; Comstock or something like that, had decided to hire that fool Roystan to look into stopping the Network's activities. I didn't know who this watcher was, but I doubted he would be of much trouble, how could he be? Being bound by the law makes stopping us near impossible. As for Roy, he may be smart but physically he is a weak man, and I doubted he'd be much trouble, and I told Eddrick as much. This was when Eddrick told me that Comstock had contacted someone else after Roystan's refusal. An assassin going by the name Jerick. Again, I had no clue who this man was, but like all men, he would fall easily enough. I told Eddrick to not be concerned, but he suggested that perhaps the Network had been betrayed, or may well be soon. I must say this angered me, no one was going to betray the Network, lest they wished to feel the wrath of hell itself.

Eddrick did not look well by this point, pacing and sweating almost uncontrollably, he fell to one knee before I realized anything was wrong. He told me he had drunk wine at the house, and with a cold dread I realized what had happened. One of my most trusted had been murdered, poisoned by this filth, Jerick, I wanted to help, tried to help, but he wouldn't let me. He wouldn't let me be involved in his death and have it as an excuse for the watch to see me in chains. Eddrick left the inn, left Bree-town. He asked that I see him buried, and that I get that bastard Jerick, and I vowed that I would. I promised him that I would bring such wrath upon the man of the likes that he had never dreamed of, and I meant every word of it. I would se this whole town burn if it got the vengeance that man deserved.

I watched him go with sadness in my heart. Another friend gone, taken to die while leaving me behind. I knew what I would do. I was going to find that bastard Jerick, and I was going to kill him. But first, I had to find him, and to do that I would need that filth Comstock. I know that watcher has ties to Roystan, and so this whole mess leads back to a man who was also, once my friend. I'll have Roy tell me where to find the watcher, and have him tell me how to find Jerick. Hell, maybe I'll kill Comstock as well, but we'll see what happens. I really hate Bree, but I will see it under my boot heel before I am done.
